ABRAMS

Abrams, currently operated by the Australian Army’s three Armoured Cavalry Regiments, is a proven capability. It provides soldiers with a decisive edge on the battlefield by combining speed, heavy protective armour and a fearsome 120mm main gun.

General Dynamics Land Systems has recently signed a delivery order to upgrade 100 more M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks to the state-of-the-art M1A2 System Enhancement Package Version 3 (SEPv3) configuration for the US Army. The delivery order is part of a US Army Requirements Contract signed in December 2017, through which the Army can upgrade up to 435 M1A1 Abrams tanks to the M1A2 SEPv3 configuration. The M1A2 SEPv3 configuration features technological advancements in communications, reliability, sustainment and fuel efficiency, plus upgraded armour. In January 2022, Minister Dutton announced the upgrade of the Australian Main Battle Tank fleet to the M1A2 SEPv3 configuration along with an increase in fleet size to 75.

General Dynamics Land Systems has a long pedigree and worldwide experience in delivering tracked and wheeled military vehicles, alongside specialist knowledge in complex, scalable Electronic Architectures. It delivers, amongst others, the Abrams Main Battle Tank, the AJAX Family of Vehicles, Stryker, the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) and the Cougar Mine Resistant Ambush – Protected (MRAP) family of vehicles.
